PostHeaderIcon 32 Weeks Old!

Wyatt celebrated his 32 week birthday yesterday with a trip to the Tulsa Zoo with his Oma!

First Train Ride!

On the train with Mom!

Hang on tight!

We saw lots of animals…

Checking out the elephants with Oma

Then it was time for a shady nap on the way out…

Time for some shade!

Then it was home to get cleaned up.

CHEESE!

I had always thought I would wait until Wyatt was at least 6 months before introducing any “solid” foods, however lately I felt compelled and curious to try. So today we did, one day after he is 5 calendar months old.

So true!

We decided to first try Happy Bellies Organic Brown Rice Cereal. You can buy it at Target, Amazon and at most natural foods stores.

So we mixed 2 ounces of expressed milk with 1 tablespoon of cereal. It was super-runny and you could almost not even tell it was cereal. That combined with a tiny spoon, and being half an hour late feeding Wyatt, made for an interesting “first” experience…

Little Hands Want to Grab Little Spoons

Faster, Mom... Faster!

It wasn’t a bad experience, by any means. But half way through spooning little tiny spoon fulls of liquid into his mouth, I began to wonder “what’s the point?” when nursing him is so much more efficient…

I ended up pouring the rest of the liquid cereal into a bottle and fed him that way. Then nursed him as well. Seemed more like an experiment to get him used to eating with a spoon in his chair. But perhaps next time I will not wait until he is STARVING to try so we can take our time.

Next time will probably be a while from now, as Wyatt spent the rest of the afternoon tooting and spitting up. Two things he hardly ever does. Coincidence? I think not. The old version of myself would feel really bad and be kicking myself (herself? are we in third person speak now?) for “putting him through all that”. But to be honest, he really didn’t seem to mind. Except when there was a delay in filling his belly. And it was kind of fun to try something new and watch how he reacted.

Perhaps he is not a cereal kind of kid. Perhaps we should try another first later on with steamed, mashed veggies. Mmmm, now that sounds good!

However, I think I’m going to need a bigger spoon…

PostHeaderIcon More Firsts

After being sick with the flu and a bad cough for a week, it was time to get out of the house.  A few walks around the block with the dog helped, but now it was time to actually drive somewhere…  with Wyatt.  Somewhere for fun.  Somewhere other than the pediatrician’s office.  Our destination…  Target!

Mom and I packed the kid up on Tuesday and headed for Target to do some shopping.  It was probably more tiring for me than Wyatt.  After all, he just slept most of the time in his bucket in the cart.  I was worried about tiring him out too much, but he was fine!

First Visit to the Toy Aisle. Star Wars, of course!

We then went on to visit the daddy at his place of work.  And stayed for lunch!

Lunch at Louie's

Wyatt had lunch too!

Today, the weather was so great that we decided to take the stroller out for the first time.  I realize this doesn’t sound exotic or thrilling, but remember that I have been home-bound for weeks between the initial recovery of coming home from the hospital and having the flu.  Plus I was really excited to try out the stroller for the first time!  The sun felt great and we had a nice breeze.  Wyatt slept through most of it, but he got some fresh air.  And Milhouse enjoyed the walk.
