PostHeaderIcon Can You See the Resemblance…?

37 weeks and 4 days

Scott and I went in for a scan yesterday.  Looks like all is well, of course.  The baby weighs approximately 6 1/2 pounds.  But that’s +/- 5% with these scans.  Anyway, that makes me feel much better, as my dr had estimated that he was at 8 lbs already and that made the idea of carrying him for another 2-3 weeks seem like madness!

So now it’s all about getting stuff done, and finishing up work projects and projects at home.  A good test in patience to wait it out and keep busy.

One such project involved getting our new washer and dryer setup last week (thanks to Linda!!!!).  Scott had bought the old set in 1999, and they still work great for the most part, but little clothes need a delicate cycle (something I had not considered) and so here are the new machines!

Shiny!

Amazing how excited one can get over domestic appliances.  But we had fun shopping for them and got a really good deal!

So last weekend, I was on a mission and pulled all Wyatt’s clothes out of his closet to de-tag them and sort them into wash piles.

Laundry can be fun when there's an Indiana Jones marathon on!

Now we are looking forward to the baby arriving and getting him all dressed up in his snazzy new threads!

One of my favorites!

At the Doctor's Yesterday

PostHeaderIcon Actually…. It’s a Boy!

Most of you may already know that we went in for another scan today, as the imaging center had problems with a few of the photos. The girl who did our scan last week was new. The lady who did our scan today was not.

So one of the first things I said to her was that the girl last week told us we were ‘definitely’ having a girl. She said that she has more experience, and therefore never uses the word ‘definitely’. She took a few measurements and then said she would go and check the gender. Then she paused the screen, and looked at me. I will never forget that moment. She said “I have something to tell you.” And I think Scott said “I knew it” or something like that. Yup. It’s a boy.

Then she pointed to the screen and said “There’s the mushroom. I’ve been doing this for 24 years…” at which point Scott says “And that’s the biggest mushroom you have ever seen, right!” Ah… proud daddy.

The rest of the scan was a blur. She took some more video and some photos:

Of course we are happy no matter what the gender of the baby is.  But we had just spent five days getting used to the idea of having a girl and now, surprise!  We are both really proud of our little boy, and from the scans, he looks really strong and healthy!
PS:  Here’s the “junk shot”!  You can guess who coined that phrase…

PostHeaderIcon It’s A Girl!

The news is out. We had our scan yesterday and it would seem we are about to become proud parents (in about 20 weeks) of a baby girl!

The scan went well. And we got our DVD. Unfortunately, none of the still images were on there. Just some video clips. So I go in on Tuesday next week to pick up another disc with the still images…

I had a feeling it was a girl especially when the technician spent so much time looking and looking and looking before she said anything. Nothing to see here! But the baby didn’t make it easy either, by keeping the cord between her legs. But at the very end she shifted. Hurray!

The baby looks really active. We saw her have the hiccups, and stretching, drinking and even rubbing her eyes. It was amazing to see the femur bones in such detail and the tech pointed out how white they are, meaning strong bones!

It truly was a surreal experience. Then began the process of phoning the grandparents and sending out the news.

Is it weird that I still am in a bit of disbelief? I suppose I won’t really know for sure until she is born. They say with a boy it’s a boy, but with a girl, sometimes it can be hard to tell… But our tech used the word ‘definitely’ so I should just move on. Plus we started buying girly stuff yesterday…

After the scan, we were both hungry, and I had to have pancakes.

Scott held out for Panda Express.  Then we went on a six-hour shopping spree!  Basically going to Babies R Us, Target, Kohl’s and Walmart, looking at all the stuff with new eyes.  We had been holding out on making a few decisions on what to buy or register for until we knew the baby’s gender.

At the last minute, we decided to tour the two hospitals that we can choose from.  Our doctor delivers at St Francis South and Southcrest so we went into both and had a look at the maternity wards.  Both are amazing hospitals, but I think we have decided on St Francis South.  Not only is it brand new, but it is so quiet and relaxed.  Not at all like what you see on tv.  Everyone was very nice and showed us around, and answering our questions.  A big bonus is that everyone gets their own room too.  Although hopefully I won’t be spending that much time there…

It was a long day, but a really good one.  I have watched the ultrasound video about 10 times since.  It is so amazing to see all this action going on.  And it’s all the time, whether I am aware of it or not!  We really do feel so very lucky, and are excited to welcome our baby girl into the world in December (or January).

Thanks everyone for all your comments and texts yesterday!

PostHeaderIcon Countdown

In two days we go to the Imaging Center to see the baby and hopefully find out the gender!  I’m not going to get my hopes up, but we sure are excited…!
