Wyatt Reed: My First 7 Days
My Mom started having contractions early in the morning on New Year’s Eve. But I wasn’t born until January 2nd. Mom and Daddy went into the hospital twice before their trip in on the 2nd when she was told she was 7 cm dilated. I was born a couple hours later at 2:25pm.
After I got cleaned up, we all went to our new room and I spent most of my first day eating and sleeping.
Day Two: This was a tough day for Mommy and Daddy as they were told I had jaundice and had to go under a UV light for 12 hours to get me better. Mom was told to watch me the whole time so I would not remove my baby goggles and hurt my eyes. I didn’t mind the process. It was warm, and I slept through most of it. I am pretty sure Mom cried the whole time…
Day Three was interesting. All anyone was concerned about was getting me to pee! I had not peed since I was born and was not allowed to go home until I did. The nurses brought an ultrasound machine into Mom’s room, and everyone looked at my kidneys to make sure they were ok. Of course they were! Mom even got to see on the ultrasound as liquid went from my kidneys into my bladder. And my bladder was full! So the nurse gave me a catheter to get the pee out. Well I can tell you, it was like trying to funnel water from a garden hose into a straw. Once it started, I peed everywhere! All over the nurses, the beds and the walls. But boy did I feel better. And Mom and Dad were relieved too, especially since they took me into another room to do this!
Now all I had to do was pee on my own. These people sure are obsessed with pee.
When I finally decided to pee, Daddy was changing my diaper. He got so excited he took a photo and ran into the hallway waving my pee shirt shouting “He peed!”. And the nurses cheered.
So with that all taken care of, Mom and Dad packed up the room (Ok, Dad packed. Mom was still too out of it.) and we headed to a place called Home.
As we drove up, we saw the decorations that our neighbors had put up to tell the neighborhood that I was here!
Then I met Grandma!
Phew. Day Three was a busy one. Glad I got to chill with Mom on the couch…
My Daddy likes to take funny photos while I am sleeping. I always have my legs bent, so he was excited to see me all stretched out!
Day Four I went to the doctor’s to get a test to make sure that all my jaundice was gone. It was, of course!
Day Five was my first Wellness Visit with the pediatrician. He said I am really healthy and that Mom and Dad are doing a great job. I didn’t even cry!
Day Six was fine. Until the evening. I had my first bath at home. I was not too impressed…
On Day Seven, Mom noticed my left eye was swollen and leaky. Grandma suggested we call the doctor, and as it was a Saturday, we had our first outing without Daddy to Ergent Care to get my eye checked out.
Grandma drove and Dad met us there. It was no big deal. And I got some medicine to make my eye better!
On Day Eight, Grandma went home. But I know she will be back soon. Our neighbors came over with their little girl who was born two weeks before me. She seems cool.
I know I said this was about my first 7 days, but I wanted to include photos of my new friends. So on Day Nine (yesterday) Mom and I hung out together by ourselves. We had a nice time. In the afternoon, Mom’s friend Pam came over with treats for Mom and cuddles for me!
So there you have it! All up-to date. Mom and I are hanging out today, and then Mom’s parents arrive tonight. So I get to meet MORE family. I sure am one lucky guy to have so many people love me.
