PostHeaderIcon Putting Away the Maternity Clothes

I always thought I would look forward to the day I cleaned out my closet and packed away all my maternity clothes.  But I have to say that I found myself to be a bit sad and nostalgic!  I had all these memories of my little boy, when he was still growing, come up as I folded each shirt to put away.  That combined with the fact that they are SO COMFY.  There is something to be said about having a license to wear elasticated pants.  I don’t want to give it up!

But it has to be done.  It’s time to move on.  I allowed myself to keep one maternity shirt out, as it looks like a regular shirt and is SO long (a requirement when wearing maternity pants, to hide their long elastic middle sections).  Also, I vowed to change into pajamas each night.  Sound strange?  Somehow, wearing sweat pants, tanks tops and sweatshirts all day makes you feel like you are perpetually in pajamas.  So when you are up 3-4 times in the night, every night (like in the first two weeks), there is little distinction between days, except for those periods of darkness.  That makes it way to easy to “sleep” (lay down for two hour periods in the hours of the day that it is dark) in the clothes you wear during the daylight hours.

Yeesh.

Now is the time for routine.  Get up.  Do baby stuff.  Shower.  Put on real pants.
Talk about a to-do list…

So I dug out my Be Band, last seen around week 10 when I had to start wearing maternity pants.  And there you have it.

I am still in resistance to grown-up pants.  But all my sweats are in the wash…

"Normal" Clothes to Unpack

PostHeaderIcon Shopping!

I thought I would be fine in my normal clothes for a little while longer, but I was wrong.  Scott’s mom, Linda, came up from Oklahoma City for the weekend and on Saturday we went maternity clothes shopping!  First stop was Kohl’s.

After looping the store several times without finding the maternity section, we finally asked.  It turns out it is located in “Intimates” (read: underwear).  We finally found the section, and I have to say how surprised I was that it was so small!  For the amount of pregnant women, and women with small children that I see in Tulsa, you would think the maternity clothing sections would be larger.

Anyway, I was still in resistance and figured I would only look at a few items.  But then I found a 3/4 length pair of jean with the big elastic band at the top and I figured at least for comedy’s sake it would be good to try something on.  And now I am privy to another great secret of women.  Elastic pants are SO comfy!  These babies just slide right on.  No zipper.  No button.  And the elastic goes almost up to my bra line.  So comfy.

I came out of the changing room to find both Scott and Linda flipping through the clothes.  I modeled the jeans and they even looked pretty normal, until I lifted my top to show the giant elastic that covered my whole belly!  Ok.  So NOW I feel like I am showing…

Scott found two more pairs of pants for me that fit great – green cargo pants and beige cargo pants.  Very comfy.

Although he was a great help, I think Scott was relieved to go as the Intimates section turned out to be “old lady underwear” and it was full of patrons discussing the “intimate” details of size and fit.

We spent more time at the check out than we did in the clothing section.  (I’m not a big browser).  And came out with three great pairs of turkey-eating pants!

Next stop was lunch.  Of course.  Then to Target.  I got a nice blue tank top from their (even smaller) maternity section.  It is really long, and I image it gets shorter as I get bigger.

Here’s the final result:

Only a few more weeks and I can get my roots done!

So we had a great weekend of eating, shopping, hanging out and watching movies.  It went by too fast.  But it was really lovely, because I had not realized how I was taking everything so seriously for the last few weeks, and forgot to just hang out and have fun.

Today we are off to the doctor again for a checkup.  More on this tomorrow…
