The Babymoon is Over
A few months ago, Scott and I decided to go to Dallas for three days at the end of July. Since then I learned that it is encouraged to have a “Babymoon” while pregnant, to just spend a bit of time together and relax. So it seems we are naturally on the right track!
We had a nice time driving to Dallas, and stopped in Allen, TX on the way in to shop at the outlet mall. Lots of great children’s stores but since we do not know the little dude’s gender yet it was more like window shopping. I did notice that at these very busy children’s stores that the girls’ side was packed and loud and full of drama while the boys’ side was quiet and serene. Hmmmm…
Scott found a neat little outfit, probably more appropriate if we have a boy. Here is his Tweet about it:
Would have been better if it came with a little hat and holster… http://yfrog.com/m9jmxkj

After a nice dinner with a former work colleague, and a mini adventure of finding beer for Scott (our hotel was in a “dry” county) we settled into the hotel. When we pulled up to the hotel to check in, there were two coaches full of people arriving! Turns out there was a family reunion of 150 from Mississippi there. Plus two weddings! Made for great people watching.
Scott’s tweet before dinner:
$3.50 for cranberry juice for @canadadre It’s true that everything is bigger in Texas…including the prices http://yfrog.com/eqazpqj

Sunday we had a nice breakfast and then, as the pool was in the shade until the afternoon, decided to hit Ikea. We spent three hours there. Madness! But fun. Got lots of good ideas for decorating, plus found some neat house and baby stuff too.
After Ikea we took a well deserved break at the pool. The kids in the pool even let Scott play “Marco Polo” with them! My dreams of swimming and being in a pool were fulfilled. I seriously have been dreaming of being in water for months. And now I know why. Apparently your body weight decreases by something like 25% when you are in water. SO NICE for the increasingly heavy belly. It literally lightened my load. Plus I keep reading that next to walking, swimming is the best exercise you can get while pregnant. But I was not so keen on all the chlorine (more on that later).
Sunday night we watched tv and movies and ordered room service. So nice to do nothing and have no obligations! Oh and Scott built beer-henge:
Mmmmm…Beer-henge. http://yfrog.com/1x29497625j

Monday we headed back to Oklahoma and stopped at a few shops on the way.
It was a great trip! And I know I came home feeling much more relaxed and able to get all the stuff done I need to do.
I’m curious to know if any of you mothers and/or fathers went on a mini-break either at home or away prior to the arrival of your baby… Post your comments here. I was thinking that if/when we have a second child, it might be nice to take the three of us on a Babymoon. But that’s getting way ahead of myself… :-)
